I Reject the ‘Big Boys’

One of the interesting things about the whole set of issues associated with women gamers is that women, unsurprisingly, have different views on these matters — if they choose to consider any of this as at all important. Some of them claim that there shouldn’t be a ruckus about women and gaming, but they still […]

Resident Evil Knife-Only Speedrun

Ghacks.net is a website which focuses on helpful computing hints, tips, and technology news. Martin regularly writes about games as well.
He recently posted his personal top five favourite speedruns, including an impressive Resident Evil knife-only speedrun (72 minutes long). I haven’t played Resident Evil, so watching this speedrun was informative as well as entertaining.
The only […]

GW Game Update 24th May: Armour Insignias and Bonuses

Prior to this update, the Prophecies campaign and the Factions campaign had a different system of armour crafting. The Insignia system was introduced in the Nightfall campaign. Yesterday’s update has brought the other two campaigns in line with the system in Nightfall.
Armor Insignias and Bonuses

Players can now obtain armor insignias from all campaigns. Profession-restricted insignias […]

On the Metroid Prime 3 Release and Future Console Purchases

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is scheduled for release on 20th August. I do not own a Wii and a new console is not in my budget this year. I’d like to buy a console to play more than one game, and quite honestly there aren’t any other games on the Wii that appeal to me […]

Aion EU Website is Live

There is a new MMORPG (yes, another one) from NCsoft that I have been keeping my eyes on for a few months. It’s called Aion: The Tower of Eternity. Aion: The Tower of Eternity is a beautiful fantasy MMORPG set in the ethereal world of Atreia. One of its unique features is flight for transportation […]

Dark Days Are Coming

I must say, following the mystery games of Funcom’s new MMORPG, The Secret World, has been incredibly fun. I didn’t come in at the start of the games, which began earlier in the month. The clues lead to an ominous website displaying a Flash-based puzzle. Solving the puzzle revealed concept art and a link to […]

Shiny New Theme

I have a new WordPress theme for my blog.
For the people reading from RSS, the new theme looks like this:

The header graphic is customisable. The current header displays concept art from Guild Wars Nightfall.
The default header graphic is shown in this screenshot:

This is the previous theme, which was up from January 2006 to May 2007:

This […]

“STFU and GTFO”

Priceless quote from a commenter on a recent Joystiq post about Gaymer.org (emphasis mine):
I’m sick of hearing about gay gamers and female gamers. When 90% of their audience is straight men, why would any developer care about any of you? I know that trying to segregate yourselves is a lame attempt at getting a bit […]

Resident Evil’s Second Sex

This week’s Escapist contains a great article that discusses whether femme fatale, Ada Wong of the Resident Evil series, is a strong feminist role model. The article begins with an introduction to the concepts in Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex and then uses it as a framework to discuss the women of Resident Evil.
