I just had a dream about Guild Wars a few moments ago. This isn’t the first time I have had a dream related to videogames (sometimes I am playing videogames in the dream, sometimes I am actually in the videogame). It has been a while since my last videogame-related dream, though.

The dream was set just after the start of the Nightfall World Preview Event. I was in some sort of open hall. It felt like the lobby of a large office building. People were walking around, and I was minding my own business at a computer, playing Guild Wars.

I was creating a Paragon character. I was messing around with my character height, comparing the height of the male Paragon with the male Elementalist. The most recent issue of PC Gamer (#154, November 2006) has a special feature on Guild Wars Nightfall. One of the bits of trivia included is that the Paragon will be the tallest character Profession in the game. In the dream, I discovered that the tallest that you could make a male Paragon was 8 feet tall, and for male Elementalists it is 7 feet tall.

The next “scene” in the dream was me logging in to an outpost (might have been Random Arenas) in the Battle Isles, and walking around town looking at the other player-characters. The outpost was different, though. It didn’t look like a sunlit island beach. Rather the whole scene had a reddish hue and the outpost was more inland. The buildings had a Morrocan influence in their design, so I figured that the new outpost must be one of the new Nightfall arenas.

Next, I found myself at a game menu, trying to select from a couple of options. The first option was PvP in the new Nightfall arenas. The second option was PvE in the new Nightfall lands of Elona. However for the second option, one could only access it for a limited number of times; five in total per account. How disappointing! I couldn’t decide whether to try the PvP first or the PvE. I selected PvP and my Necromancer was warped to a PvP outpost in Elona. It was the same arena I described earlier. Then I decided that I didn’t want to play PvP after all, so I logged out and was at the game menu again. I selected PvE this time, and a cinematic began. There was a voiceover with a woman speaking. Jeremy Soule‘s awesome music was playing in the background. I decided that I didn’t actually have the time to stay and sit in that office lobby and play PvE, and that I would rather be comfortable at home to play it, so I logged out. However, since the cinematic had only been playing for a few seconds, I hoped that the game didn’t count this as one of my PvE logins. I logged out and then logged back in again to check the status. I was happy to find that I still have five chances to play.

And then I woke up. I went to my computer to check whether the Nightfall Preview had started, and found a comment in my previous post about the start time being delayed. I opened the game to check specifics. It was originally scheduled to begin at 03:00 my time, but it has been delayed to 08:00. I was hoping to at least experiement with character creation before work, but that won’t happen. Oh well. It’s not like I haven’t set aside a large amount of time this weekend to play!

Heh. Sounds like a good dream. I’m glad you still had your five chances to play. ;)

I can’t wait to get home tonight! Too bad I have to drive all the way there from the hellish place that is New Jersey. Hopefully, I won’t be too tired – I’ll at least make a character to play on Saturday.
