It Continues…
My hope is to receive all the remaining parts of the computer by this weekend, or the middle of next week. Right now, the only essential parts at the moment are the DVD drives and 3.5 floppy drive, which are most assuredly on their way this time. The store, for some reason, voided my order following a problem with their server. My keyboard has been ordered, as has my monitor.

Optical Drive: DVD-RW/DVD-ROM
Floppy Drive: 3.5 floppy
Wireless Network Adapter: D-Link AirPlus 802.11g Wireless LAN PC CardDisplay: Hyundai L90D+ 19-inch LCD Monitor — Isn’t this hot? 8ms response time, baby. I also got an extended warranty that kicks in when the manufacturer’s warranty ends. Sweet. Apparently, this is a good choice. US Embassies use this brand in their offices around the world. Also, I discovered that Hyundai uses Samsung’s technology in their monitors.
Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse Keyboard — Clearly, this keyboard is the sex.
Chassis: AP107 Computer Case — Not the most whiz-bang case in existence, but I’d have rather spent more money on the inside bits than the outer shell. Haven’t figured out how to get the blue front lights to glow yet. Nor have I got some of the audio thingies on the front panel to work, because I don’t know how the plugs are supposed to fit. I think I have to modify them or something. :-/
Mouse: Logitech Ladybug Mouse — I’ve had this for a while, but I’m including it for completness’ sake. And it’s not “kid sized” because Logitech mice in regular colours also come in this size. You don’t see in the picture, but the red colouring is iridescent and it’s cool as hell. I got it because it was shiny… Yeah, don’t laugh.
The only forseeable hang-up (aside from OS and other installation problems) is me not being able to stave off the flu that seems to have incapacitated one of my family members, and is threatening to do the same to another. I feel it slowly creeping up on me. My voice is a little hoarse, and I think my lungs are becoming congested. If this progresses, I can predict mad coughing fits like that droid, General Grievous, in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. If only I can muster the same echo-y voice. That would be cool.
That computer is definately teh SEX! Wooooooh. (That is my intellegent comment for the day.)

This is definitely my major purchase for the year.
While connecting up the lights and the front panel thingies is a pain, it generally isn’t too hard. You should have a bunch of wires coming in from the case, and they should have little names on the ending black bits. Check the manual for your motherboard, as well as double checking the labeling on the board itself. It should tell you where the, say, power light plugs in, or the headphones. Make sure the black cord goes to the ground (negative -) side, and plug it in. Then, when it doesn’t work, switch it around:-)
It sounds like a sweet machine. Personally, I’d add another gb of RAM – you can never have too much RAM. And I hope your LCD monitor works for gaming. I haven’t had the guts to try one out yet, esp. because regular monitors are getting smaller all the time. I do have a dual monitor set up, with a small, cheap LCD hooked up too. That way, I can read email *and* play games at the same time:-)
Emm that is one nice looking monitor. Though I do think its a bit crazy customizing and making ones own computer. Oh well now you can play Rome Total War, what bliss.
Oh and by the way Edge does indeed now suck as does Q…

You know, I did ask my friend, who advised me on which parts to get, whether I should get more RAM or not, and he said that 1Gb was plenty.
As for the LCD, it’s pretty decent, from just looking at the stats. I read probably over 250 customer reviews on this thing — the fact that there were so many reviews (and positive ones, at that) was noteworthy. I saw on Engaget or somewhere that they’re coming out with LCDs that have a 4ms response time, but that’s for “grey-to-grey”, meaning that, in general, response time would really be around 8ms. And those 4ms LCDs are quite pricey… Well, hopefully it works out.
Skanderberg: In what way does Edge now suck as compared to before? And when did it start to suck?
I was never much of a Q reader. I only picked up issues if I liked a feature/cover story.
Before: something resembling a magazine as opposed to a tabloid. Ie word to drive narrative and images to assist, now the pictures tend to dominate text and are used to tell a story.
Also I feel like it has lost its identity. Edge was always about games culture rather than games per se and was an adult publication I feel like in a bid to get figures and to compete with the diversification of games and indeed rival publications its gone a bit Shazaam! and forgotten that it can be articulate. Though I do feel it still gives the best reviews. In spite of like the most genuinely non game waste of time ever, the awful GTA series. UGH, ugh How in gods name is that a GAME?
As for Q its even worse, it seems as if edited and indeed written by a teen candy whore junkie. (IE not good)
If you want a nice magazine try Retrogamer, I am assuming you recall such classics as Dizzy, Kid Icarus, Pang, and of course Mario. If yes then it may be worth a look.
I’m an Application-aholic, so you can never have too much RAM to me. I tend to leave plenty of apps running in the background, and as bloated as Windows programs are getting (Mozilla uses over 100mb of RAM, while Firefox uses 50mb), I hate the idea of waiting for even a fast hard drive to page stuff out, when I can shell out another $100 or so for lots more RAM.
